Mount Rainier
If you are longing for scenic drives and strenuous hikes or you just want to admire historical architecture or mountain climbing, Mount Rainier is the best place for you. Mount Rainier and its surrounding area create Mount Rainier National Park.
Mount Rainier National Park was constituted on March 2, 1899 by President William McKinley as the fifth national park in America. Mount Rainier National Park covers 235,625 acres. Its elevation is moving in extent from 1,610' to 14.410' above sea level.
The first European, who discovered Mount Rainier was Captain George Vancouver, who reached Puget Sound in 1792. Mount Rainier was given its name after Rear Admiral Peter Rainier- the friend of Captain George Vancouver.
Mount Rainier is a huge inactive stratovolcano in Pierce County, Washington, situated 54 miles southeast of Seattle. The original name of Mount Rainier was Talol or Tacoma from the Puyallup word, which in the translation means "Mother of Waters". Mount Rainier is the highest mountain of the Cascade Range and is one of the most glaciated peaks in the United States. There are five glaciers on the top of Mount Rainier and there are many others on the mountain's hillsides. The largest glacier is the Emmons Glacier, which is in the fact the largest glacier in the whole Unites States. Its length is 6 miles from the summit down to northeast slopes. The slopes enfold luxuriant conifer forests and above tree-line, the glaciers are hemmed in by alpine meadows that are sprinkled with wild-growing flowers.
From 8,000 to 13,000 people try to climb the peak every year, but only a few of them are successful. It is because glaciers make very inconvenient conditions for climbing.
The last eruption was sometimes between 1820 and 1854, but many people announced the vibration in the late 19th century. Geologists anticipate Mount Rainier will erupt again.
