Trump Tower and the General Motors building
The Trump Tower and General Motors Building are located in Midtown Manhattan in New York City.
The exact address of the Trump Tower is 725 Fifth Avenue. It is 202 metres (664 feet) tall skyscraper; it has 58 floors. It is a mixed-use tower (retail, office, and residential) that was developed by Donald Trump and the Equitable Life Assurance Company. Designer of the project became Der Scutt of Swanke, Hayden Connell. Material used for construction was concrete and the construction was completed in 1983. At this time, Trump Tower was the tallest structure of this type in New York. The building’s public spaces (the office lobby, off Fifth Avenue, and the five-level atrium which has a waterfall, shops, cafés, and a pedestrian bridge that crosses over the waterfall’s pool) are clad in Breccia Pernice, a pink white-veined marble and brass and mirrors are used throughout. Branches of some of the world’s most famous shops can be found here. Donald Trump resides in the tower's triplex penthouse valued at $100 million.
General Motors Building is an office building at 767 Fifth Avenue. It is 215 metres (705 feet) tall and it has 50 floors. Architects of the building became Emery Roth & Sons, Edward Durell Stone & Associates. Materials used for its construction were white marble and black glass – piers of white marble has glass bays between. Marble was used also for the lobby. The construction of General Motors Building started in 1965 and was finished three years later, in 1968. The north end of the lobby was originally used as a showroom for General Motors cars. Later it was used by FAO Schwartz as a toy showroom. There is 1,860 square metres large sunken plaza below the building. It faces Grand Army Plaza across Fifth Avenue. The space is used by an outdoor café, and shops lining the plaza under street level.
