Inside the Rockefeller Center

Rockefeller Center is a complex of 19 commercial buildings lying on 22 acres between 48th and 51st Streets and 5th and 6th Avenues in Manhattan New York. It is the largest privately held complex of its kind in the world, being an international symbol of modernist architectural style blended with capitalism. In 1988 it was pronounced a National Historic Landmark.

It was named after John D. Rockefeller Jr., a millionaire who leased the space from Columbia University in 1928 and developed it from 1930. The construction of 14 buildings finished in 1939. The principal architect, Raymond Hood that worked with three other architectural teams designed buildings in Art Deco style.

Rockefeller Center is quite famous for its sunken plaza that was considered as failure at first. However, it became a place of famous Ice Rink. It is a popular space for winter entertainment, with giant Christmas tree standing above it.
