Ellis Island Immigration Museum - The Registry Room
The building of Ellis Island Immigration Museum resembles the history nearly 12 million immigrants who came here to search freedom from 1892 to 1954. The main building was restored after 30 years of abandonment and opened as a museum on September 10, 1990.
The Registry Room is the largest room in all the building. It was once called the Great Hall. It is situate on the second floor. It was the main room where all the immigrants were inspected by commissioners as well as doctors. Now it contains historic benches and reproduction inspector desks. At dinner events held in the Museum, Registry Room turns into a warm and gloriously lit private event space for groups of up to 1,000 people.
