Changing of the Guards, Buckingham Palace
Changing of the Guards takes place in front of the Buckingham Palace. It is very popular tourist attraction being watched by thousands of them every time.
It is basically the historic ceremony of Guard Mounting that takes place in the Forecourt of the Buckingham Palace. The New Guard marches to the Palace from Wellington Barracks with a Guards band and then it takes over the duties of the Old Guard. This is done with a lot of pomp. The Guard comprises two detachments, one each for Buckingham Palace and St James's Palace, under the command of the Captain of The Queen's Guard.
During the winter the ceremony is taken every other day, during the summer it is every day. The ceremony starts at 11.30 a.m. and lasts approximately 45 minutes.
